Installation

Installing Aerogram is just as simple and quick as any other WordPress theme. Make sure you have WordPress version 3.5 or higher installed. If you have never installed a WordPress theme before, take a look at the following link: Using WordPress Themes. Otherwise there are two ways to install Aerogram. Follow the slideshows below for exact instructions:

Installing via Dashboard

  • Step 1 → Head to Appearance > Themes.

  • Step 2 → Click on Install.

  • Step 3 → Click on upload.

  • Step 4 → Browse to select the theme file. It is a *.zip file and should not be unzipped before installing.

Installing via FTP

If you want to use FTP to install your theme make sure you unzip it beforehand. Then upload it to wp-content/themes. Head to the WordPress dashboard to activate it and you’re ready. Read more about installing with FTP here: Adding New Themes Manually (FTP)

Required plugins

Aerogram requires two plugins to work to it's full capacity. Both Theme Station Shortcodes and Theme Station Load More are included in the theme and can be installed with one click. Upon installing the theme, you will see an info box on your dashboard asking you to install the plugins . Simply follow the onscreen instructions to automatically install the plugins. You do not have to download them from a third source. If you would like to know more about installing, activating and managing plugins, please visit: Managing Plugins

Main Slideshow

We already talked about the different types of slideshows that you can display on your main page. Here we will go into how to set them up. You can either display feautes posts, upload your own slides, upload one static image or disable the slideshow.

"Featured Posts" Slideshow

In order to use this feature make sure you have enabled Display featured posts from your blog. You will then find that your Edit Post page will have extra settings.

Tick the box to display your post in the slideshow. Then set a featured image. Make sure it is 1600px*450px in size.

Upload own slides

To upload your own slides make sure you have selected Upload your own slides in the theme options. After saving you will see a new element in the right navigation called "Slides".

Click on Add Slide to upload a new slide. You will then be able to add additional information, like the slider heading, caption and weather you need a button or not. You can set up each slide individually.

Click on "Publish" and your first slide has been added. The slides will be displayed in the order of your upload.

Upload a static slide

You can upload one image as a staic slide. Go to Theme OptionsBlog & Frontpage to set it up. Upload your slide or choose it from your Media Library. Make sure it is 450px*1600px in size. You can also set up a heading, caption and buttons. Choose a color scheme depending on your image to make sure your caption and heading is visible. Save and you are ready to go!

Post Formats

Aerogram supports the the following post formats: standard, aside, gallery, link, image, quote, status, video. Most of them are self-explainatory, so I’ll only get into the ones that need to be uniquely set. Always remember to select the right post format before publishing, to make sure your post is displayed properly.

Gallery

The gallery post format allows you to set featured collection of images in your post. In order to set the gallery click on media upload. Then add click on images to include them in your selection. Create the gallery, set the amount of columns and make sure it links to the media file and not attachment page. Insert it into your post and it will be displayed in a grid. Regular galleries will be displayed in columns with lightboxes.

Link

If you want to make a link post, make the first paragraph of your post the link. If you would like to add a description you can do so by writing it in a new paragraph.

Image

Upload an image or select one from your Media Library and set it as featured image. If you add further text in your post, it will appear below the image. You can also set captions in the Media Library.

Quote

Simply write the quote you would like to post into the entry box. If you would like your quote to have a source write this one into the title textfield.

Video

Below each post there is a box called “Video Post Settings”. Paste the URL of your video into the text field labled "oEmbed". You can also add a shot caption below. You video will be included in your post. Any text in the main editing window will appear below the video.

To set up an archive page, select Archive Page in the Page Attributes. You don't have to add any other content, your archives will be displayed automatically according to months.

Recommended plugins

Here are some plugins I would recommend you to install. Aerogram is complete in it’s functionality without them, but they are really handy and extend the features of Aerogram. All of them work with Aerogram and are styled, too.

  • Zilla Social
  • Zilla Dribbble
  • Contact 7
  • Disqus

This is the end of the documentation. If you have any further questions, please contact here: info[at]themestation.net

Customization (since 1.2)

If you would like to make customizations to the theme, Aerogram now comes with a blank child theme for you to use. Simply install and activate it and you are ready to go.

What are child themes?

Child themes give you the opportunity to make customizations to the theme that will not be lost after an update. If you would like to override parts of the CSS, a certain template file or even add a new template file, simply add it to the child theme directory. To read more about child themes please visit the WordPress Codex. http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes
